Not ideal |

Ok, the paint work is a bit faded |
I suspect that some of the timbers will need replacing |
The vegetation will need removing... |
...as will the fungi. |
And jolly good they sounded too |
Say cheese! |
Andy decided that when we get the passengers down to Cheltenham, we should stand by the loco holding out our hats hoping to collect a few tips:
Not sure that he'll make too much that way! |
Permanent Way at work on the south head shunt |
It wasn't just the Permanent Way team that were out grabbing photos, the Lineside Drainage Management team were at it too. I got them back a little bit later on in the day at Winchcombe. We were greeted with "You can't park that here." as we pulled into the platform. Not seeing any traffic wardens about, we decided to risk waiting there until the guard blew his whistle and waved his green flag.
You can't park that here. |
The Malvern Hills |
Definitely making progress. |
Waiting for the last of the passengers to head off to the races |

Preparing the ground for more concrete |
They had nearly as good a fire going as we did. |
I was lying in wait for 8274 an her gallant crew with my camera when they got back:
Arriving at Toddington |
Not bad, but he didn't quite manage to keep his head still enough. |
Raking through the fire |
Setting off again halfway through a long exposure |
We were working so fast that we were all just a blur |
Are fines taken for misuse of the com. Cord?? If so, I wonder how much was raised, if not, would make a brilliant fundraiser for broadway!
ReplyDeleteAn excellent question to which I don't know the answer. I somehow doubt that fines are collected, but would agree that if they are, the Broadway appeal would be a great use for them.
DeleteNope fines aren't collected - to be honest it's very rare that anyone is that way inclined on a race train, it has happened on one day as far as i'm aware but that's about all. I can't help thinking that asking for 5 shillings from someone standing next to a pulled cord would be fairly ineffective :)
Deleteit's £5 I'll have you know, this steam railway is in the 21st century :D how do communication cords actually work. despite the movies' best efforts, I know they don't actually put the brakes on, presumably there is a sign of some sort in the cab - what is it? meant to say on my original comment, brilliant night time pics, love the one outside toddington and the long exposure ones
DeleteI understand that the record for pulling the communication cord is three times on a race train. The communication cord allows air into the vacuum brake pipe thus putting on the brakes. The driver brings the train to a controlled stop in a safe location and an investigation then takes place by the guard and the fireman as to which cord was pulled and why. The brake needs to be reset on the carriage before the train can proceed.

I normally block spam, but yours amused me. Out of idle curiosity, how much do you charge for cleaning a steam loco?
